On February 8th and 9th, the JJ Pearce Swim Team competed in the 5A Region 3 Swimming and Diving Championship. Preliminary events were held on Friday with the top 16 finishers in each event moving on to Finals on Saturday. Pearce swam well in Preliminaries with ten swimmers qualifying to compete in Finals, including Sophomore Erika Casales, Freshman Jack Hamilton, Junior Scott Lin, Sophomore Blake Maczka, Junior Madeleine Marcos, Sophomore Sarah McNair, Freshman Annette Mendez, Junior Asher Mendez, Freshman Jordan Otto, and Freshman Elise Riggle.
On Saturday, the final day of competition, four Pearce swimmers were recognized for finishing in the top eight positions. Blake Maczka placed 1st in the boys 500 Yard Freestyle and is an automatic qualifier for the State Championship to be held later this month! Sarah McNair finished 2nd in the girls 500 Yard Freestyle. Other Pearce finalists included Annette Mendez with a 6th place finish in the 100 Yard Butterfly and Jack Hamilton with an 8th place finish in the 500 Yard Freestyle.
